Every Lab needs Basic Training! This is the least that you can get by with and
still have a great dog. Beyond Basic Training there is no limit. A Lab is very
intelligent and desires to please, those are the ingredients that we will use to
allow out Lab to reach their full potential.... whatever you decide that to be.
At Alderwood, beyond Basic Training, we like our Labs to be hunter/retrievers
and some of them to go on to be "Big Air" dock dogs. So, that is the training we
will discuss. The emphasis will be on Basic Training and on hunter/retriever
(not necessarily for Field Trial work). We are developing two series of online
lessons. The "BT" (Basic Training) Series will cover the obedience skills a dog
must acquire to be a good dog. The "HR" (Hunter/Retriever) Series will cover the
skills required to , load in a car or boat, sit still in a duck blind, come
without hesitation, mark a downed bird and take hand/whistle signals in order to
find a downed or crippled bird that they did not see fall. These series will be
designed from a "practical" point of view. We won't attempt to train a dog for
professional field trial work, there are plenty of books out there to do that.
The menu to the right provides a link in order to "register" for these online
lessons. There is no cost, simply a way to measure effectiveness of what we
are offering and improve the lessons as we go along. The registration roster
email list will be available to all the others on the respective lists (BT & HR)
so we can all make new friends, compare notes and exchange information. |
